Disruptive Speaker Series
Humans over Hardware: Posturing the SOF Enterprise for the Future
03 March 2020
RSVP Closed 24 February
On 03 March 2020, SOFWERX, in collaboration with the USSOCOM J5 Donovan Strategy and Innovation Group, will host a Disruptive Speaker Series entitled, “Humans over Hardware: Posturing the SOF Enterprise for the Future.”
Dr. Lydia Kostopoulos is a Strategy and Innovation Advisor for the USSOCOM J5 Donovan Group, where she analyzes strategic trends relevant to Special Operations in the context of emerging technologies.
Kostopoulos’ work lies in the intersection of national security, strategy, and technology. She forecasts emerging threats around disruptive technologies, participates in the NATO Science for Peace Program, is on the IEEE-USA AI Policy Committee, and has been awarded the U.S. Presidential Service Award for her service to the cybersecurity community. Passionate about social tech awareness, she has an art series about AI (#ArtAboutAI ) and released an open source game on technologies that affect humanity called Sapien 2.0.
The future holds exponential change, increased asymmetric capabilities and complex convergences of technology, ethics and political conflict. Acting decisively through this noise will mean revisiting how the SOF Enterprise attracts, retains and utilizes human capital. This presentation hopes to stretch the audience’s thinking about how USSOCOM can creatively leverage talent in the context of increased connectivity, demographic changes, new understandings of sovereignty and dynamic threats.
